This blog is to document my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail starting February 1st, 2009. It's purpose is to keep in contact and update friends and family on my 4 month trip, and for anyone who may be interested in a future thru-hike.
Andy Laub is another solo thru-hiker who I met along the trail. We both decided that after a rough day on the trail, it would be a better experience to hike with one another, thus, our trip began.

Ian Mangiardi:
I am 20 years old, live in NYC and taking a semester off of school at NYU to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. Starting February 1st, 2009 I will try to finish in early summer/mid-June.
Andy Laub: I am a 21-year-old from Philadelphia who overloaded on college classes so I could spend my last semester thru-hiking the AT. It's Northbound or bust until mid-June when we plan to Katahdin!
Our Adventure: We both individually planned to hike the AT alone. However, after meeting at Low Gap shelter, two days into the adventure, we both realized doing it together was a much better way to experience the miles of the Appalachian Trail.
